Real Estate Sales in Turkey Over Past 5 Years | Istanbul Takes the Lead
Over the last five years, around 7 million properties were sold in Turkey, including 154,871 properties which were sold to foreigner investors.
On the occasion of the International Housing Day, dated 5th October every year, the Turkish Statistics Authority published an updated statistical report on real estate sales in Turkey during the period from September 2015 to August 2020.
The report highlighted that the highest sales rate was achieved in the year 2017, reaching up to 1,409,314 properties (one million four hundred nine thousand & three hundred fourteen) over the period between 2015 and 2020.
Istanbul Takes the Lead in Real Estate Sales in Turkey
The city of Istanbul ranked first in real estate sales in Turkey, selling up to 1,199,715 properties (one million hundred ninety-nine thousand & seven hundred fifteen) during the above-mentioned period.
Ankara rated second with a total of 720,124 properties sold. Izmir rated third, with around 412,588 properties, then Antalya, with 313,735 properties, followed by Bursa, with a total of 265,715 properties sold.

Istanbul also took the lead in real estate sales to foreign investors in Turkey, reaching up to 39.8 % of the total 154 thousand and 871 properties sold in the city, among the properties sold to foreigners across the country.

Real estate sales to foreign invsetors in Istanbul reached up to 61,734 properties, followed by the state of Antalya with 32,61 properties. Bursa came third with 8,904 properties, and Yalova ranked fourth with 6,813 properties, whereas Ankara, the capital, reached around 7,856 properties, and lastly Sakarya with 4,769 properties.
Iraqis Ranked First!!
Among other foreign nationalities, the Iraqis ranked first in purchasing real estate in Turkey with a total of 30,209 properties during the same above-mentioned period.
The Iranians ranked second with 15,083 properties. The Saudis came next with 13,296 properties, the Russians with 11,228 properties, and finally the Kuwaitis with a total of 10,137 properties.
