Istanbul International Airport announces the date of the start of flights

The Istanbul International Airport administration announced the date of transferring all flights from Ataturk International Airport to the Istanbul’s new and third airport.

As stated in a declaration, the airport administration has forwarded a notice memo to all airlines around the world

According to the statement, the transfer will take place within 45 hours, as all flights will start at 03:00 on March 1st, 2019, and continue until 00:00 March 3rd, 2019.

Ataturk Airport’s fate after launching Istanbul International Airport

Ataturk International Airport will be closed for all international, domestic, commercial and non-commercial flights, as of midnight on March 3rd, 2019. However, Ataturk Airport will remain available for independent shipping companies, private flights, and some official state aircraft flights. In addition, the airport will be used for maintenance work.

The new airport will be the largest in the world

Istanbul International Airport was inaugurated on October 29, 2018, in a huge ceremony attended by the President of the Republic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a number of prominent local political figures, and many world leaders.

Istanbul International Airport is built on an area of 76.5 million square meters, and it will be the largest in the world upon completion of all its phases.

The first phase of Istanbul Airport is expected to provide services to nearly 90 million passengers per day, with all four phases to be completed by 2028.
