First Export Train Crossing Turkey to China in 12 Days!

The first export train has departed from Turkey to China, on Friday, December 4th, crossing two continents, Asia and Europe, two seas, Marmara and the Caspian. Furthermore, passing through five countries, namely Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China.

This train contains 42 commercial containers of household electrical appliances. It is expected that the cargo will be delivered in 12 days only!

The Turkish General Directorate of Railways stated that 10 trains have been successfully operated on the line (China – Turkey – Europe) so far.

It is worth noting that the first transit train that departed from China to Europe was in November in the year 2019.

Export Train Departing from Istanbul

The first freight train from Turkey to China was sent off by Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Adil Karaismailoglu from Kazliçesme station on istanbul’s European side.

The train has passed, as agreed, through the Marmaray tunnel connecting Istanbul’s Asian and European sides beneath the Bosphorus.

The train will travel 8,693 km (5,402 miles) in total to deliver its cargo to China in 12 days. These include 2,323 km in Turkey, 220 km in Georgia, 430 km in Azerbaijan, 420 km through the Transport Route in the Caspian Sea, 3,200 km in Kazakhstan, and 2,100 km in China.

The train will pass Istanbul, Kocaeli province, the capital Ankara, central Sivas province, and eastern Kars province, and will make a stop at Akhalkalaki station in Georgia.

Countries Crossed by the Turkish Export Train to China

Late Tuesday evening on 8th of December, the train loaded with Turkish exports arrived at the train station in the city of Akhalkalaki, southwest of Georgia.

The Georgian Ministry of Economy stated that goods were transported to China previously via other methods. However, for the first time a cargo of goods would be delivered via the Baku – Tbilisi – Kars (BTK) railway line to China.

In the same context, he resumed that the BTK line, which crosses Georgia, is a logistical part that connects the European and Asian continents with each other. In her statement, Georgian Economy Minister Natila Tuvana noted: “We are witnessing a historic moment today. Rail connection Baku – Tbilisi – Kars (BTK) has initiated, for the first time, a reciprocal movement by exporting goods from Turkey to China via Georgia. “

On Thursday evening of December 10th, the train has arrived at the port of international maritime trade, on the Caspian Sea, in the Azerbaijani capital Baku.

The 42 containers of goods were loaded onto a ship for transport across the Caspian Sea to the port of Aktau in Kazakhstan.

On Saturday morning of December 12th, the train landed at the port of Aktau, overlooking the Caspian Sea, western Kazakhstan. In a statement by Kazakh shipping company, it was noted that the train and its cargo had arrived via the Caspian Sea.

Furthermore, added that the train will cover a distance of 3,200 km on the territory of the State of Kazakhstan, to end its journey in China’s Xi’an province.
