Turkey plans to create 3 islands from the excavations of the new Istanbul Canal
The Turkish government plans to establish 3 islands from the outputs of the new Istanbul Canal, estimated at 2.77 billion cubic meters. Consequently, it will continue to receive bids for the new Istanbul Canal project during the year 2017. The project involves constructing three islands at the exits leading to Marmara and the Black Sea.

In a related context, some geological studies revealed that dirt resulting from excavation operations needs to be further improved in terms of quality. In other words, given its value and chemical properties, it will be separated according to the percentage of minerals and acids contained within.
Furthermore, in order to determine the locations of the new islands, water depth as well as the movement of earthquakes in that area will be taken into consideration.
Estimated Area of the New Istanbul Canal Project
The length of the new Istanbul Canal is expected to be 43 kilometers, with 6 bridges passing over it. The volume of investment in the canal project will reach up to 15 billion dollars.
Within the framework of this promising project, container shipping ports will be constructed on the Marmara and Black Sea. Moreover, the port’s span will reach approximately to 4.8 km. A huge logistic center will also be built on an area of 500 hectares.
Furthermore, the area of the first island will be around186 hectares. Whereas, the second will be up to 155 hectares, and the third 104 hectares, with an estimated cost of around 10 billion dollars.
In addition, about 6000 workers will participate in the construction phase, and 1500 workers will be in the operational phase. Several investment projects will be established, and their incomes will be used to finance the canal.
The competent authorities expect the completion of the Istanbul water canal project within 5 years. Upon completion, the canal will be ready for the crossing ships of all sorts.
In conclusion, we would like to indicate that this project will be an important shift in the history of Turkey in particular and the world in general. In fact, it will have a significant impact on the boom in real estate investment on both sides of the canal in Istanbul.
