12 Million Foreign Tourists in Turkey in the First Half of 2017

The number of foreign tourists in Turkey during the first half of the year 2017 reached up to 12.24 million. Certainly, an increase of 14.5% over the first half of last year 2016. While tourism revenues reached around $ 8.8 billion.

The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism released a statement on Tuesday clarifying that the Russians topped the list of tourists with 1.69 million. Second came the Germans with 1.24 million, and finally the Georgians with 1.07 million tourists.

Consequently, both Istanbul and Antalya topped the list of the Turkish provinces most visited by tourists. Istanbul reached up to 4.39 million, while Antalya 3.27 million tourists.

Only in June 2017, the number of tourists to Turkey reached up 3.48 million tourists, with an increase of 43.1% over the same month in 2016.

According the Turkish Statistical Institute, tourism revenues in the first half of 2017 reached up to $ 8.8 billion, of which around $ 6.8 billion are by foreigners. Whereas, the expenses of expatriate Turkish citizens who visited the country reached up to almost $ 2 billion US dollars.

The data revealed that tourists’ spending on clothes and shoes reached up to about $ 1.2 billion in the first half.
